Genealogies

In connection with a project in which I’m currently involved, I’ve made reconstructions of some family trees. They include:

  1. The Genealogy of Balthazar Gerbier, reconstructed from the family tree to be found in MS CLE M6, National Art Library, Victoria and Albert Museum, London. It was originally compiled by Jerome Beckbergen, Herald of the Duchy of Brabant. c. 1636.
  2. The family tree of the de Valladolid family, with references to the sources from which I compiled it.
  3. The family tree of the San Vitores/St. Victor family – another Spanish family to whom Gerbier was related. Again, I’ve specified the sources.
  4. The family tree of the del Rio family. Several of them played a significant role in the history of the Low Countries, and they were related by marriage to the Gerbier family. Again, I have included references to the sources used.

I’m inserting 2, 3, and 4 as jpg. files, which can be zoomed in. They are relatively small files, and I think the images are clear enough. I appreciate they will be of limited interest to most readers.

In conjunction with the same project – about which I’ll be giving more information in the future, I am also uploading as a pdf. file a Calendar that I have compiled of the MS CLE M6, the Geneaologie de Messire Balthazar Gerbier. This pdf. can be scrolled through, or downloaded if necessary.

The Gerbier Genealogy:

The Gerbier family tree ( as reconstructed by me from Gerbier’s autograph manuscript) has been a problem in relation to WordPress: as a single image it has too low a resolution to be useful. It is unlikely to be incorporated into a hard copy publication, as this would involve a large, folded document: impractical and expensive . But any account of a genealogy really requires that the reader should be able to access an overview of the material under discussion. A spreadsheet makes it possible for the reader to move about over a large area, and examine the model in question, so that seems the best choice. Unfortunately I was not able to embed the Excel spreadsheet in this website, as this facility is only available to business sites on WordPress.com, and although I explored other alternatives, I could not find any other way of presenting the spreadsheet as I’d like to see it myself. Until I can find a better way to present it, all I have been able to do is to place the spreadsheet in the media folder. If you click on the link below, the Excel document will not open, but will automatically download to your computer. Please click only if you are prepared to accept the download.
